Questionnaire

As many of the points discussed were based on opinions from the industrial perspective, therefore to provide a more solid conclusion, I have conducted a survey to public in order to study their knowledge towards AR technology. In order to gather as many responses as I can, I have distributed my survey through social media and architect forum. In addition, as I planned to distribute the survey to social media, I am expecting more opinions from the people aged around 20 to 30s as they are the majorities that using all these kinds of technology which makes their point of view to AR much decisive.

 * To discover on public opinion about the assets AR would bring to designers

9. Do you think AR can improve the communication between the working team? Why?

 * To collect opinions from people regarding towards the feasibility of AR in construction communication.

(Unfortunately there is technical mistakes I made that there are some participants who could not see nor    answer this question)

Results

As many of the points discussed were based on opinions, therefore to provide a more solid conclusion, I have conducted a survey to public in order to study their knowledge towards AR technology. In order to gather as many responses as I can, I have distributed my survey through social media and architect forum. In addition, as I planned to distribute the survey to social media, I am expecting more opinions from the people aged around 20 to 30s as they are the one who are using all these kinds of technology which makes their point of view to AR much decisive. Below are graphs and charts showing the result of survey.

  • As expected, 87% of the participants are aged between 18 to 24 as most of the participants are students.

  • Another 13% of the participants who are aged between 25 to 64 are mostly working in the industries mainly the design sector.

  • 56% of the female does know what is AR about and 36% of them recognize AR from games where 28% of them recognize it from architecture.

  • 35% of the female recognize AR via website while 30% of them recognize it via social media.

  • 68% of the participants are currently students.

  • 8 of the participants come from design background and currently working in design industry.

  • Among participants who agree, 33% of them know AR from websites.

  • Surprisingly, there are almost half of the participants do not know what is AR while most of the participants are aged 18-24 years old.

  • 38% of the participants know AR from its gaming applications

  • 33% of the participants know AR from its architectural practice

  • 38% of the participants has chosen others, where their sources of AR information comes from friends and family, academic researches and exhibitions.

  • Majority of the participants get their information from social media.

Maybe, if the immersive multimedia did provide like a live walk through the whole building and let them know the details of the structure, colors, materials and others.

Yes. it helps design team visualize the space and enables the client to see the designer's vision

Yes, I think it is really exciting that you can see a design come to life right in front of your eyes without it being built. It gives a really clear idea to the client about what they will be getting and you can adjust designs so they are hapy with the end result.

Yes - but only for children. I think it is immersive enough for children to be intrigued by it but not realistically enough for adults

I have not yet learned how this might be used or applied in the design industry.

yes, pre see, pre feel

yes. it can engage and help people to somewhat experience a geometry or a service.

Yes, because it provides the experience to feel the reality of unreality. For example, Nokia City Lens.

Yes, because it will allow us to understand effects and the context of the design.

Yes, it helps to visualise both the forms and spaces easier, make you feel like you are really seeing the real thing and you are physically appeared in the real space.

There's a Virtual World in the AR, users feels the 3D experience of the space before it is built up.

It can help mainly client to visualize better us designers ideas. It is definitely beneficial for big scale projects as clients pour in large amount of money & they need to see the outcome of their money spent

Yes, it is easier to let the clients understand the space as some might have hard time visuallising the space without any 3D

Question 8:

Do you think Immersive Multimedia can improve the communication between designer and client? Why?

  • Male, Student, 18-24

  • Female, Student, 18-24

  • Female, Student, 18-24

Yes, let's say that the walk through did successfully happened, it can really help that the client communicate with their understanding and easily to give commands and ask for changes can be easily spotted and fix.

yes. its easier to view it live rather than the designer trying to explain their design to the client who may be unable to imagine or visualize the space

Yes, becuase the client can not always fully understand plans or visuals

Yes - but only for children. I think it is immersive enough for children to be intrigued by it but not realistically enough for adults

I suppose if the clien would be able to 'experience' the proposed space in a manner that replicates the proposed reality better it might be more convincing.

yes

yes. see above.

Based from my understanding, yes. For example virtual reality on gaming, it gives the players better experience to feel the environment so that they can explain what does it feels when doing something they have never done it before.

Yes, because 3 dimension is easier to understand than 2 dimensional paper.

Yes, designer might not need to talk so much, what they need to do is just show client the Immersive Multimedia, make them see and feel the real form and spaces.

Definitely yes, but current software development still require a lot of improvement in terms of materials & colors. Pioneer of the industry, adobe, autodesk, vray, or even octane render has no information about their development on VR features yet, Est time to get a mature VR product require 5-10 years.

Definitely. Client could understand designers idea better and there will be less miscommunications as clients may be thinking 1 thing, designer will be thinking another

Yes, things would be easier as when both get to see what the spaces are and where the client would want to revise the space
